Ingredients
  

  • 1 1/2 ounces gin
  • 3/4 ounce fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 ounce simple syrup
  • 3 ounces champagne or sparkling wine
  • Lemon twist for garnish

Instructions
 

  • Fill a cocktail shaker with ice.
  • Add the gin, fresh lemon juice, and simple syrup to the shaker.
  • Shake well until the mixture is well chilled, about 15 seconds.
  • Strain into a chilled champagne flute.
  • Top with the champagne or sparkling wine.

Notes

Traditionally, the French 75 is made with gin, but it can also be prepared with cognac. The cocktail is named after the French 75mm field gun, which was known for its power and precision during World War I.
