Equipment

  • Mixing glass
  • Bar spoon
  • Strainer
  • Cocktail glass

Ingredients
  

  • 2 oz Mezcal (60 ml)
  • 1 oz Sweet Vermouth (30 ml)
  • 2 dashes Angostura Bitters
  • Ice cubes
  • Garnish: Brandied cherry or a twist of orange peel

Instructions
 

  • Fill a mixing glass with ice cubes.
  • Pour the mezcal, sweet vermouth, and Angostura bitters into the glass.
  • Stir the mixture for 30 seconds until well-chilled.
  • Strain the drink into a chilled cocktail glass.
  • Garnish with a brandied cherry or a twist of orange peel.

Notes

For a more intense smokiness, select a mezcal with a higher concentration of agave smoked over mesquite or oak. The Mezcal Manhattan can also be served on the rocks in a lowball glass if preferred.
