Pegu Club Cocktail

The Pegu Club is a classic gin-based cocktail with a refreshing citrus flavor, enhanced by the bitterness of bitters. It originated in the 1920s at the Pegu Club in Rangoon, Burma, where it was a favorite among British officers.

Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Jigger
  • Strainer
  • Cocktail glass

Ingredients
  

  • 2 oz Gin
  • 3/4 oz Orange Liqueur (such as Cointreau)
  • 3/4 oz Fresh Lime Juice
  • 1 dash Angostura Bitters
  • 1 dash Orange Bitters (optional)
  • Lime wheel or twist for garnish

Instructions
 

  • Fill a shaker with ice cubes.
  • Add the gin, orange liqueur, fresh lime juice, Angostura bitters, and orange bitters (if using) to the shaker.
  • Shake well until the outside of the shaker feels cold.
  • Strain the mixture into a chilled cocktail glass.
  • Garnish with a lime wheel or twist.

Notes

The Pegu Club can also be served on the rocks in an Old Fashioned glass if preferred. The orange bitters are optional but recommended for a more complex flavor.
