Equipment

  • Julep cup or highball glass
  • Muddler
  • Straw

Ingredients
  

  • 4-5 Fresh mint leaves plus extra for garnish
  • 2 teaspoons sugar 10g / 0.35 oz
  • 2 1/2 ounces rum 75 ml
  • Crushed ice
  • Splash of water optional

Instructions
 

  • Place the mint leaves and sugar into a julep cup or highball glass.
  • Muddle the mint and sugar together until the leaves begin to break down.
  • Fill the glass with crushed ice.
  • Add the rum over the ice.
  • If desired, add a splash of water to dilute and stir well.
  • Garnish with a sprig of fresh mint.
  • Serve with a straw.

Notes

For a less sweet version, reduce the sugar or use a sugar syrup. Dark rum can be used for a deeper flavor profile.
