Ti' Punch

Directly translating to "small punch," Ti' Punch is a simple yet potent rum-based cocktail hailing from the French Caribbean islands. It is traditionally sipped slowly, similar to how one would enjoy a neat spirit.

Equipment

  • Old Fashioned glass
  • Muddler
  • Spoon or swizzle stick

Ingredients

  • 2 oz Rhum Agricole
  • 1 tsp Cane Syrup or to taste
  • 1 Lime Disc cut from the side of the lime to include a bit of the peel

Instructions

  • Cut a thin disc of lime and place it in the bottom of an old-fashioned glass.
  • Add the teaspoon of cane syrup over the lime.
  • Pour in the Rhum Agricole.
  • Muddle the lime disc lightly to release the essential oils and juice, mixing it with the cane syrup and rum.
  • Add a few ice cubes if desired and stir the drink briefly to combine and chill slightly.

Notes

Ti' Punch is often personalized to the drinker's preference. Some may prefer more cane syrup for sweetness, while others enjoy it with less. It can be served with or without ice, and stirring is usually kept to a minimum to retain the strong character of the rum.
