Golden Fizz

The Golden Fizz is a classic variation of the traditional Gin Fizz, which gains its "golden" moniker from the addition of an egg yolk to the standard recipe. It's rich, frothy and adds a luxurious texture to the sharp effervescence of the original cocktail.

Equipment

  • Shaker
  • Strainer
  • Highball glass
  • Jigger or measuring cup

Ingredients
  

  • 2 oz gin
  • 1 oz fresh lemon juice
  • 3/4 oz simple syrup
  • 1 egg yolk
  • Club soda to top up
  • Ice cubes

Instructions
 

  • In a shaker, combine the gin, lemon juice, simple syrup, and egg yolk.
  • Add ice to the shaker and shake vigorously for about 15 seconds to chill the mixture and ensure the egg yolk is well emulsified.
  • Strain the mixture into a highball glass filled with ice.
  • Gently top up with club soda, pouring it down the side of the glass to preserve the froth.
  • Stir lightly to combine and garnish with a slice of lemon or a twist, if desired.

Notes

The use of egg yolk can be a concern for some due to the risk of salmonella. Always use fresh, properly refrigerated, clean grade A or AA eggs with intact shells to reduce the risk. Alternatively, pasteurized egg yolks can be used.
